Renew RTO Registration

Continue Your Journey in Quality Vocational Education
Renewing your RTO registration is essential to maintaining your status as a nationally recognised training provider in Australia. The renewal process ensures that your organisation continues to meet all regulatory requirements, maintains compliance, and delivers high-quality outcomes for learners.
With careful planning and preparation, your RTO can continue operating with confidence and credibility.
Why Renew Your RTO Registration?
Staying registered as an RTO offers ongoing access to the benefits of being a nationally recognised training organisation:
Maintain Legal Authority to Deliver Accredited Training
Only registered RTOs can issue qualifications and statements of attainment under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF).
Ensure Continuous Business Operations
Avoid disruption to services by renewing before your current registration expires renewal is time-sensitive.
Access Ongoing Funding and Contracts
Renewed registration allows you to continue participating in government-funded training programs, tenders, and other business partnerships.
Demonstrate Quality and Compliance
Renewal is a public affirmation of your RTO’s ongoing commitment to the Standards for RTOs 2025 and continuous improvement.
Key Steps in Renewing Your RTO Registration
Prepare Early
ASQA recommends that you apply for renewal at least 90 days before your registration expiry. Late applications risk lapses or de-registration.
Undergo an ASQA Audit (If Required)
ASQA may conduct a compliance audit as part of your renewal process, especially if you’ve had non-compliances in the past, a change of scope, or complaints lodged.
Receive Decision and Continue Operations
If approved, your RTO’s registration is extended usually for 5 to 7 years, based on your performance and risk rating.
Submit the Renewal Application
Apply online through ASQA’s portal. You’ll need to:
- Confirm your scope of registration
- Submit updated documents
- Pay the renewal application fee (approx. $1,600–$2,000, check ASQA for updates)
Update Your Training and Assessment Strategies (TAS)
Make sure your TAS documents are current, reflect actual practice, and align with any updated training packages or qualifications.
Address Rectifications (If Applicable)
If minor non-compliances are found, you’ll typically be given time to make rectifications. Serious issues may delay or affect renewal approval.
Review Current Compliance
Conduct a full self-assessment against the Standards for RTOs. Identify and address any gaps in:
- Training and assessment practices
- Recordkeeping
- Trainer qualifications
- Enrolment processes
- Policies and procedures
Tips for a Smooth RTO Renewal
Stay Ahead of Deadlines
Set reminders at least 6 months before expiry. Start your internal review and documentation update early.
Maintain Continuous Compliance
Don’t wait for renewal to become compliant. Keep systems, records, and trainer credentials up to date year-round.
Use External Support
An external compliance consultant or auditor can help assess risks and correct issues before submission or audit.
What Happens if You Don’t Renew?
Failing to apply on time will result in the automatic cancellation of your registration, loss of ability to operate, and delisting from training.gov.au. This affects students, funding arrangements, and your business’s reputation.
Ready to Renew?
Ensure a smooth and successful renewal by starting early, maintaining strong systems, and keeping up with regulatory changes. Your RTO’s future depends on its ability to stay compliant and adaptive in a changing training landscape.
